The Monster Munch: 5 Snacks To Keep You Going

Let’s face it: Fly Gyals aren’t just sexy, talented women, we’re also big, sweaty athletes. And spandex American Apparel leotards or not, we still need to fuel our bodies like athletes. According to the IronMan Sports Medicine Institute, active people tend to get hungry every four hours or sooner. One of the best ways to satisfy a football-player-sized craving is to keep some good-for-you grub around for those hungry moments in between auditions. Healthy snacking will keep you from some not-so-healthy binge eating later. Try these Fly Gyal faves the next time you’re in the mood for a munch.

Greek Yogurt – Thanks to delicious brands like Fage (pronounced Fa-yeh) andChobani, the Greek Yogurt craze is in full swing. Good-for-you nutrients include protein, potassium, and calcium, making greek yogurt a perfect snack for every active body.

Peanut Butter on a Whole Grain Piece of Toast –  Whole grain bread is packed with fiber, antioxidants, and B vitamins while the protein and mono-saturated fats in peanut butter provide an extra boost – just in time for that third callback. Look for a good organic peanut butter (which more commonly won’t contain unhealthy trans fats and hydrogenated oils), or try Justin’s Natural Honey Peanut Butter Blend, which comes in individually wrapped serving sizes- a dance bag no-brainer!

Low Fat Chocolate Milk – Surprise! Packed with protein and carbohydrates, it turns out this kid’s classic is a great way to rebuild muscle after a workout.

Fruit and (Low Fat) Cheese – This hors d’oeuvre staple is a great way to tide your hunger cravings over until mealtime. Protein, calcium, and the natural sugars and fibers of fresh fruit pack all the punch you need to make it through that three hour master class. We’re loving Laughing Cow Cheese, which comes in a variety of options, all at only 35 calories a wedge.

Low Fat Microwave Popcorn – Turns out movie moguls may have been onto something. Low fat microwave popcorn is actually a safe snack! Swap the butter and try adding a bit of flavor with some cinnamon, chili pepper, or a bit of parmesan cheese. Toss in a Ziploc and enjoy!
