What do perfect skin and 180º turnout have in common? Let’s be honest, both are out of reach. But with the right care, good practices, and a solid regimen you might be able to come close. Plus, now that you’ve nailed down your basic skincare routine, you’re one – or four – steps closer to achieving your fresh face goal.
Enter the face mask. Though not required in the basic skincare regimen, face masks can play a vital role in every Fly Gyal’s week. Masks are designed to solve a wide variety of skincare issues. They hydrate, remove excess oil, exfoliate dead skin cells, brighten skin tone, tighten lines, and help reveal fresher, smoother skin. But with so many options on the market, how do you know which one is best for you? Chanel Jenae, lead aesthetician and owner of Arcona, explains that oily skin should look for formulas containing salicylic acid, bromelain, papain, pentonite, and kaolin, while drier skin should stick to hyaluronic acid, lactic acid, borage, olive, avocado, coconut oils, and gentle clays with moisturizing bases. Sensitive skin can also benefit from masks but should look for ingredients like oatmeal, aloe vera, chamomile, licorice, coconut milk, and cornflower. If you have problematic, acne-prone skin, masks with sulfur, kaolin, tea tree oil, benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, and fruit enzymes will help to unclog your pores and leave your skin smooth and clear.
We’ve rounded up our five favorites to kick start your hunt for the perfect mask. Whether you’re looking for something cooling, hydrating, clarifying, tightening, or nourishing, one of these is sure to turn you green with joy (and your friends green with envy).
