From an early age, Jean Baez was destined to be in the creative arts. Fascinated by historic time periods – particularly the 1920s – Jean began studying illustration and painting in order to learn more about how to mold an idea from a concept to a physical result. Jean would often try to recreate a look she found in a fashion magazine or on a billboard until she became inspired to create her own unique twist on it. She dabbled in makeup artistry and didn’t think much of it as a career path until her cousin, a celebrity hairstylist, brought her along to assist on a photo shoot for MAC Cosmetics. While on set, Jean fell in love with the beauty industry and knew she had found her calling. In 2008, Jean joined the team at Sephora 34th Street in Manhattan. Jean was one of two seasonal hires kept from a pool of more than 60 makeup artists. There she was able to hone her craft, becoming a certified Color Expert and inspiring the store to showcase different themes and the team’s artistry skills every Friday. Jean’s impressive talent was also recognized by the Sephora Pro Team when she made it to the second round of auditions at an international competition with mor ethan 700 case members. Back in store, Jean became the Events Coordinator and successfully organized multi-branded events for Sephora’s top brands. Her bridal showcase generated tons of leads and professional connections. Many clients returned to shop with her for their beauty routines. She also led the artistry team demonstrating services at a networking showcase for midtown Manhattan’s businesses. A working mother of four, Jean returned to work soon after the birth of her daughter, Bella, and then chose to pursue her freelance business full-time with her husband, a professional photographer. Her professional credits include Fashion Week, film, print, editorial work, along with an on-call service for proms, weddings, and special events.
